Brighton sign Israeli striker Tomer Hemed from Almeria

Brighton have completed the signing of Israel international striker Tomer Hemed on a three-year contract. The 28-year-old has joined the Seagulls from Spanish side Almeria for a fee in the region of £1m, according to Sky sources. Hemed scored eight goals in 26 La Liga appearances last season for Almeria but he unable to help them avoid relegation as a 3-2 defeat to Valencia on the final day of the season sealed their fate. The highlight of his Almeria career was a two-goal salvo against Malaga in January in a 2-1 win away from home, earning him the man-of-the-match award. He had one year left on his current deal and has also plied his trade in Israel with Maccabi Haifa and Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv. Brighton manager Chris Hughton told the club's official website: "Tomer is someone I have been aware of for a few years, and someone I watched a lot during my time at Norwich City. "It was encouraging that when I first came to Brighton, Tomer was a player who Paul Winstanley and the club's recruitment team were also aware of, and we have been working towards bringing him to the club since the start of the year. "It's been another great team effort from all key areas of the club to secure Tomer’s signature, and we are delighted to have completed the transfer and we welcome him to Brighton. “Tomer is 6ft tall, strong, and he has played much of his football in La Liga and at international level. He is very capable of scoring goals. “It's another significant signing for us. I have no doubts about Tomer adapting to Championship football and improving our attacking threat."

Spurs: Where do they need to strengthen this summer?

Wimmer and Trippier fit the club’s new policy of signing young, hungry players who are keen to develop under Mauricio Pochettino and, along with January signings Dele Alli and DeAndre Yedlin, they also highlight that Pochettino and new head of recruitment Paul Mitchell, who worked together at Southampton, are the driving force behind signings. Pochettino was largely forced to work with what he had following his appointment last summer but the club are keen to bring through more youth players and will therefore assess carefully whether new recruits will block a prospect's path. Alex Pritchard will be part of the first-team squad at White Hart Lane next season Alex Pritchard will be part of the first-team squad at White Hart Lane next season Alex Pritchard, who thrived on loan at Brentford last season, has already been told he will be a fully integrated member of the first-team squad next season, while the likes of Tom Carroll, Harry Winks, Grant Ward, Luke McGee, Kyle Walker-Peters and Josh Onomah were all included on the post-season tour for a reason. But in order to clear those paths they must offload a string of more ageing talents who have failed to prove themselves to Pochettino, and Sky sources understand the task of doing that has been handed to the marginalised technical director Franco Baldini, who spearheaded the unsuccessful £100m+ recruitment drive in 2013. Emmanuel Adebayor and Younes Kaboul are among the players who could leave this summer Emmanuel Adebayor and Younes Kaboul are among the players who could leave this summer Aaron Lennon, Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul, Etienne Capoue and Vlad Chiriches, who were all made available for loans in January, are no longer wanted at the club while Spurs will listen to offers for Benjamin Stambouli, Roberto Soldado and Mousa Dembele.

Sol Campbell to run for London Mayor

Sol Campbell - hoping for victory in London Mayoral race Former England footballer Sol Campbell has announced his bid to run for London Mayor, accusing "pro" politicians of failing and saying his working-class background would help him. Campbell's name has long been in the running to be a Conservative candidate for the job but now he has officially confirmed his intentions. The ex-Arsenal and Spurs player will take part in a hustings event with rivals to become the Tory candidate who will challenge for the job that will be vacated by Boris Johnson in next May. I know I'm not going to be a frontrunner. "But I look at people who have been in politics for five, 10, 15 years, and muck up, you see them muck up and think 'You guys are supposed to be pro!' "People that have gone to Oxbridge, had thousands spent on their education, and I mean they are royally mucking up." He told The Sun: "I bring something new to the table. This is a whole new road for me, something I can get my teeth into, but I just felt it was something I had to do. "I come from a working-class background, it wasn't easy for me at all, but I worked hard. And now it's about giving something back." The Conservative Way Forward group confirmed Campbell would take part in its mayoral hustings next month. A Conservative Way Forward spokesman said: "We are delighted that candidates like Sol Campbell are throwing their hat in the ring, and coming to debate the future of London at our hustings on 4 July. It's decision time. The starting gun has been fired. Other candidates now need to decide: are they in or out?"

Germany forward Lukas Podolski insists he still has a lot to give for club and country, despite a disappointing year with Arsenal and Inter Milan. Back in his home city of Cologne for a friendly against the United States on Wednesday, Podolski failed to show signs of dampened spirits after a season spent predominantly on the bench. "You can take experience from everywhere you play abroad, even if it was not my best year from a sporting perspective," said the 30-year-old. "But I still have many years ahead of me and a burning desire to play football." That could still be with Arsenal. Podolski's contract with the Gunners still has a year left to run on it and, after scoring just one goal in a loan spell at Inter and failing to convince the Serie A club to make his move a permanent one, he sees no reason why he will not be staying in London next season. "There's bound to be speculation in the coming weeks, but at the moment it looks like I will be going back to London," he said. "Things can always change, but if needs be I will remain at Arsenal next season. "They are a great club and I think I can help them. I can confirm there has been no interest from Werder Bremen." Podolski is set to pick up his 124th cap for Germany against the USA this week and he continues to enjoy the respect of his national team colleagues. "In my eyes, he is often underrated," said Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger. "He's got fewer grey hairs than me and that's probably because he's had more fun in his life than I've had. "He's always in a good mood." Read more at http://talksport.com/football/arsenal-reject-still-has-lot-give-and-expects-gunners-return-next-season-150608149971#MYI9UIAY8rKGT8CJ.99

Nicolo De Marchi: Juventus fan must walk for Barcelona ticket

I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more just to be the man who walked a thousand miles to see Morata score." The Proclaimers have not re-worked their lyrics but one Juventus fan may well have nightmares when he hears their classic song as he nears the end of a colossal walk to the Champions League final. At the end of Nicolo De Marchi's 683-mile walk from Turin to Berlin - where his beloved Juventus meet Barcelona on Saturday - awaits a ticket to the prestigious final, provided by the Italian club if he completes the journey. His efforts stem from a pledge he made when tweeting the club on their 'if we get to the final' hashtag prior to the Old Lady's semi-final win over Real Madrid. "I will go on foot," wrote the 22-year-old, who has passed through Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany on his route. The journey was due to end on Thursday in Berlin but he uploaded a post late in the day on Instagram stating "the fatigue is so great... arrival postponed to tomorrow". Map of Europe The distance from Turin to Berlin is similar to walking from Southampton to Newcastle and back again Staff at Juventus - a club without a European Cup success since 1996 - were inundated with pledges from fans saying they would get tattoos or marry at the final if the club qualified. And when they did with a 3-2 aggregate win over Real, Nicolo received a shock when Juve issued a challenge. The club said it "threw down the gauntlet" to Nicolo, who has been allowed to use a bike for parts of the journey and a car for 12 miles due to hazardous conditions. He is closing in on his target - the chance to see Juventus lift the European Cup live, with eyes which could be forgiven for looking a little tired come matchday.

Should Manchester City keep Yaya Toure and James Milner?

After a disappointing title defence, Manchester City are expected to be active in the summer transfer window – but can they afford to let Yaya Toure and James Milner leave?
Toure has been criticised this season and linked with a move to Inter Milan, while Milner is out of contract in the summer and could switch to a Premier League rival.
With the help of WhoScored.com, we check the stats to compare how Manchester City performed with and without the pair…
Despite reported interest from former City boss Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan, Toure’s agent recently told Sky Sports News HQ the midfielder would be staying with City. However, although a rating of 7.40 from WhoScored - enough to rank third at the club - certainly suggests he has offered plenty to the cause this season, Toure's performances have undoubtedly dropped from a fantastic 2013/14 campaign.
He has had a direct hand in just 11 league goals this season - of which just one has been an assist - compared to a massive 29 last time around and questions have been raised as to his application.

That doesn't change the fact that Manuel Pellegrini's side began to unravel when Toure left for the African Cup of Nations in January, with City dropping points courtesy of draws rather than defeats. City may have lost just one of the 11 matches he didn't start in the league compared to six when he did, but they also saw their win ratio drop substantially - from 70.4 per cent to 45.5 per cent. Replacing Toure's influence would be easier said than done.
James Milner
Another player that may have waved goodbye to the City fans for the final time this season is Milner, whose contract at the club is set to expire. The England international is a fan favourite at the Etihad - and has been wherever he’s played – while his experience of top-flight football is vast.
If Sunday's win over Southampton was to be Milner's last for City, he signed off in fitting fashion, teeing up States-bound Frank Lampard to score in his final Premier League appearance. It was Milner’s seventh assist of the season - enough to equal the tally of David Silva - to accompany five league goals, despite the fact that just 18 of his 32 appearances came from the start.
With City losing just two of the 18 matches Milner started in 2014/15, and five of the 20 he didn't, it's obvious he still has a worth to the team. The midfielder will feel that he deserves more playing time, however, and following an increase in his WhoScored.com rating from a disappointing 2013/14 campaign of just 6.59 to 7.02, Milner has every right to feel that he should be a regular starter in the Premier League.

Can We Combine Danny And Theo?

Brendan Rodgers is an embarrassment. He is an embarrassment both on and off the field. For the umpteenth time in his short managerial life he proudly played himself up just before the inevitable almighty fall. His '150 percent certain to remain manager next season' was typically succeeded by a 6-1 hammering at the hands of Stoke. To be abundantly clear, this was the worst defeat for Liverpool since 1963. Also disgraceful was how he approached the match vs Real Madrid earlier in the season - basically giving up before even taking to the field at the Bernabeu. Liverpool fans remember going into major stadiums with the confidence of winning or fighting for a draw but Rodgers has sucked that out of us. We remember Rafa's teams winning against plenty of the continental heavyweights and if not winning, running them bloody close. But more than anything else, for the first time in many a season there seem to be two realistic, brilliant candidates available to us. Rafa has proven himself all over again (with Chelsea and Napoli) and clearly loves Liverpool Football Club. Jurgen Klopp is a genius manager who can take Liverpool back amongst the elite. Both men bring tons of experience, silverware, tactical nous and the ability to attract top-level players from across the world. It would be a major mistake on the part of FSG if they were to let go of this opportunity.
